Bespoke Dental Tips: Non Carious Cervical Lesions...

March 1, 2017

"Non carious cervical lesions. What does that mean? It means that you have some sort of breakdown in your tooth structure along the gum line without having a cavity. They come in all shapes and sizes, but typically they are wedge shaped. Take a look at the photos above to get an idea of what they look like. Some people opt to leave them alone, but what I can assure you is that they will not get any better. Over time they can get deeper, more sensitive and decay can develop. I tend to recommend having them restored or covered with either bonding, veneers, crowns or periodontal surgery. The photos above show the results of bonding. You need to keep in mind that the bonding only serves to keep it from getting worse. The source of the problem will still need to be identified. This may require orthodontics, occlusal adjustment, periodontal surgery and/or a night guard."
